Annualized Compensation: $24.00 - $27.00 per hour
Summary Description
The Food Service Team Member works cooperatively as a team member to support the daily operations of the kitchen and dining areas to ensure the safe, sanitary, and efficient preparation and service of meals. This role contributes to maintaining cleanliness, following food safety standards, and supporting a friendly, efficient dining experience that contributes to student well-being and school operations, including a positive experience for students, employees and visitors. This individual also assists with setting up milk breaks and putting away deliveries. The role supports other team members beyond their assigned stations to ensure smooth and efficient operations. The position follows a regular work schedule and may occasionally be required to work outside of normal hours, including evenings and weekends, to support special events or school functions.
Essential Functions and Specific Duties
- Demonstrate a team-first attitude by stepping in to help others during peak times or as directed by the supervisor.
- Assist teammates as needed, regardless of assigned station, to ensure timely preparation, assembly, and service of meals and snacks according to menu and portion guidelines.
- Set up and maintain food stations, salad bars, and serving lines with appropriate portions, condiments, and utensils.
- Follow standardized recipes and portion control measures.
- Be attentive to dietary restrictions, allergies, or special food needs when directed.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, dishes, utensils, and food prep areas according to health department standards.
- Collaborate with the team to maintain a clean, sanitary workspace in compliance with school and health department standards.
- Wash dishes, utensils, kitchen equipment, and food prep surfaces regularly.
- Clean and sanitize tables, counters, and dining areas before and after meal service.
- Follow all food handling, temperature control, and personal hygiene procedures as required by local health codes.
- Dispose of food and waste in a safe and sanitary manner.
- Help receive and store food deliveries; rotate stock as needed to minimize waste.
- Refill food, condiments, paper goods, and supplies during meal service as needed.
- Alert supervisor to shortages, low stock, or equipment malfunctions.
- Interact professionally with students, staff, or visitors in the serving area.
- Respond to questions or concerns in a courteous and respectful manner.
- Maintain a clean and organized serving area throughout meal service.
- Support the food service team during peak times or staff shortages.
- Attend required training and adhere to all company, school district, or agency policies and procedures.
- Must be available to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, to support school functions as needed.
- High school diploma preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience in food preparation and kitchen operations, preferred.
- Prior experience in school or institutional food service, a plus.
- Flexibility, eagerness and willingness to assist wherever needed is essential.
- Knowledge of basic nutrition and food safety standards, a plus.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for events and programs.
