Swim Team Head Coach
Founded in 1909 and affiliated with the Episcopal Church, The Bishop’s School is an independent, all gender college-preparatory school for 800 students in grades six through twelve located on a historic campus in the heart of La Jolla, just 10 miles north of downtown San Diego. With a student-teacher ratio of approximately 9 to 1, Bishop’s is known for academic, artistic, and athletic excellence while celebrating character development, diversity, inclusion, and belonging. Compensation: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
Summary Description
The Bishop’s School is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable High School Swim Coach to lead and develop student-athletes in our swim program. The coach will be responsible for planning and overseeing all aspects of swim practices and competitions, fostering individual skill development and team unity, and upholding the School’s mission and core values in all interactions with students, families, and colleagues.
Essential Functions and Specific Duties
- Knowledge of applicable team or individual rules.
- Ability to organize and lead daily practices.
- Ability to run home meets using the School’s timing system
- Demonstrated competitive coaching skills in area of sporting specialty.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with student-athletes.
- Knowledge of strength and conditioning methods and techniques.
- Ability to transport students in a school vehicle if necessary.
- Communicate with student athletes to understand their goals and ambitions.
- Assess the strengths of individual athletes and teach them to use them effectively and improve their skills overall.
- Monitor and evaluate progress of student athletes.
- Keep records and documentation of and prepare appropriate reports.
- Proactively support the athletics department and anticipate the needs of all constituencies.
- Proven job experience as a coach or experience in working with students 6-12 grades.
- Strong ability to adhere to regulations and standards.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to inspire and motivate.
- Knowledge of strengthening and conditioning methods and techniques.
- Intermediate proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office, and a willingness to become proficient in new programs, learning management systems, collaboration and productivity apps as needed.
- Embrace the special needs and requirements associated with an academic calendar and schedule which may necessitate fluctuations in workdays and hours.
